The first way involves dividing everything by the term connected to x

\(3x + 4 = 11\)

\(\dfrac{3x}{3} + \dfrac{4}{3} = \dfrac{11}{3}\)

\(x + \dfrac{4}{3} = \dfrac{11}{3} \)

\(x + \dfrac{4}{3} - \dfrac{4}{3} = \dfrac{11}{3} - \dfrac{4}{3}\)

\(x = \dfrac{7}{3}\)
