Well, it's a slippery slope. I mean, you don't want the kid to be evil, so you discourage selfish behavior.
Just because somebody do bad things it doesn't classify them as evil. Evil is a very strong word to be used for regular sins.
But a strong stand needs to be taken against regular sins, even if the effect of them varies from person to person. Well, I'd say not taking a strong stand will hurt a kid somehow, in some way.

Religion shouldn't have a place in politics but sadly it does. That's because religion actually evolved as a political theory. religion was developed to rule people in the name of God. Still today, rules are interpreted as a personification of God. Remember, how Donald Trump created a picture of him as Jesus.
