Communist nations, for instance, demand worship of various degrees. It's different from simple patriotism as the state wants to substitute very strict religion, so there's no limit to privacy violation, for instance.
Communism stopped people from practicing religion but the communist leaders evolved as revered figure and made common people worship leaders. Just look at North Korea.
