Christianity is all about living a Christ like life. You're meant to emulate the life of Jesus Christ and this means living a righteous life which is not easy because of sin.

Trying to live a sin free life isn't what gets us to heaven. It's all about Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross so all of our sins are forgiven. Relying on that Gospel message is the key to salvation and then because we have obtained that redemption, we try to not sin. But it's not to attempt to earn anything at all since that was done by the Christ. When we try to not sin, it's out of love for God and for our neighbor!
